| THE LOSS ADJUSTER Your Insurance Company will instruct an in-house claims inspector or a Loss Adjuster to investigate almost all claims over £1,000. He may appear to be independent but he is paid by, and reports back to, the Insurance Company. You do not see his report. His task is to establish what, in HIS opinion, it should cost to repair or replace the damaged or stolen property. A settlement where the Claimant and the Loss Adjuster are in total agreement is rare indeed! Many claimants agree to the Loss Adjuster's proposals just to avoid further distress and disruption. THE INSURANCE CLAIM LOSS ASSESSOR Not to be confused with the Loss Adjuster (see above), the Insurance Claim Loss Assessor is a professional whose sole concern is to negotiate insurance claims on behalf of his clients. He takes over every detail; filling in the claim form, meeting the Loss Adjuster, preparing schedules, telephoning, writing to, negotiating and, often, arguing with the Loss Adjuster until the claim is settled to the Claimant's satisfaction. How can Limotec help you? We recently helped a client who was offered a settlement figure of £35,500 on his £45,000 limousine. After contacting us, we managed to persuade his insurancer company to change this figure to £43,800 making him a further £8,300 to replacing his limousine. Our fee for this was just £1200.00 Q At what stage should I employ a Loss Assessor? A It is most important that you appoint your own insurance Loss Assessor at the earliest opportunity as the adjuster who has been appointed by your insurance company will require meeting with you within a few days of the incident occurring. The adjuster is there to investigate the circumstances of the incident and report to your insurers; therefore, it is most important that you have independent representation at that the initial meeting which can sometimes last up to 2 hours. Q What will Limotec Assessors charge me? A Limotec Assessors work on a no-win-no-fee basis and that our fees are based on a small percentage of the final agreed settlement. Unlike many solicitors or some assessors, who charge an upfront fee, limotec Assessors only charge you once you have received monies from your insurance company. Q How long will it take for my claim to be settled? A This would normally depend upon the type of claim you are making. As with most thefts, the average settlement period is approximately 3 months. However, this can take slightly longer due to the complexity of the claim. As with fires, the length of time is determined by the severity of the incident. On average, most serious fires and/or thefts can take up to 6 months. Limotec Assessors will do everything possible to mitigate the time it takes to settle your claim. Q What if I need to employ the services of a professional? A With the majority of major fire and theft claims where damage has occurred, it will be necessary for a professional to be appointed who will be able to inspect the damage and formulate a specification of works. Any fees incurred due to professional are normally covered under the terms of your policy. It may also be necessary in some cases for your Insurers to appoint their own nominated restoration company, which would normally be paid by your Insurers. Q Will Limotec Assessors make any charge to me if my claim is not paid? A Limotec Assessors work on a no-win-no-fee basis and on the rare occasion that it can be established that neither your Insurers nor any third parties are liable then Limotec Assessors make no charge for their services.
